Easter Week End Part 2

On Easter Sunday we went to the nearby Town of Oliena. There is an interesting procession there on Easter Sunday called "Su Incontru" (The Encounter). It consists in the whole town meeting in 2 Churches on different sides of the town where they then carry in procession the statue of the Madonna covered in a black veil (in sign of mourning) and one of Jesus covered in gold necklaces as vows. They then meet in the center of the town in Piazza Santa Maria where the "Encounter" takes place. All the men take out their pistols and shotguns and start to shoot up in the air... pretty scary and LOUD! Here are a few pictures of what the ground looks like after all that chaos!

Murales in the Town Square of Oliena women dressed in typical Sardinian Costume

Next to this murales of a man and a woman carrying a wine flask on her head in typical costume, there is a writing in their Sardinian dialect (every region in Sardinia has their own dialect) to the best of my knoledge it says:

"First comes Family then the land, beaches and the sea.... in this tormented and sorrowful land, all we are left with is our wine to drink!!!!"

This town is famous for its "Nepente" wine, and even Gabriele D'Annunzio (a famous Italian writer and poet who lived between 1863 and 1938) wrote about it; so they are very proud and I guess this is why the murales mentions the wine.
There is also a donkey in this murales, these amimals are hard workers and are still used today to cultivate the land and help with daily farm activites. So it symbolizes land and hard labor.

And again inside the Hotel, some cute chicken vases that we are going to buy!
I love the idea they had by putting wool under the chickens to make it look like thier nest!

and I really loved this sculpture of Noah's Arc...

everyone inside including the animals were smiling and happy!
