UNUSUAL Things....

So here are a few UNUSUAL things:

1. We eat fish whole here in Italy. Even in the best 5 star Restaurant, they will serve you fish with their head and tail on. These fish are one of my favorites out of most; they are gilthead sea bream. I've learned to love and savour all these unusual things that normally in US you just wouldn't have.

2. And when I mean we eat fish whole take a look at these small fish:

Well, their nick name in Italian is "Eat me Whole" (Mangiami tutto!) - so what you do is dip them in wheat bran and deep fry them and eat them all together! You pop'm in your mouth as they were potato chips!

3. I never thought I would but... I dig snails. Yes Ladies and Gents, Escargot!!!
My mother in-law makes darn good escargot and this is just one of the ways I eat them! You can even make pasta sauce with them! Every year we go to a small town named Gesico (jesiko - popultation 954) where in October they have an annual snail feast in honor of the St. Amatore country church. Can't wait to go this October!

4. Enrico Ironing! HAHAHAHAH! Since it is just UNUSUAL for anyone to Iron aroud the house I had to capture this picture perfect moment!! Kudos to you Enrico for doing the dirty work! :)

Lagging a little ....

Sorry if I haven't been on the ball with posting and all but really, nothing exciting or worth blogging has happened this past week. We've just had bad weather and I'm back to work, so fun & play is over until the weekend. I really can't wait for something to come up so I can blog about it.

Bear with me!

Bad Weather - Common Denominator?

I've been following Ike and the other bad weather across the US, and for some reason (or coincidence) the weather here in Sardinia has turned on us as well. In Cagliari we went from 90° F. with 65% humidity to 60° F. with heavy rainfalls, water spouts and mini tornadoes...... WHAT IS UP??? It's just getting crazy!

New Job.....

So, I've started my new job at my friend's Chiropractic Office. A big change to my old job. A little less dynamic but, I need to be thankful for this opportunity since jobs in Italy at the moment are a hard thing to find. At the moment I'm just doing secretarial work. It's fun to be in the office with friends though.... I don't know if any of you saw the show "Private Practice", well my office sort of reminds me of that! There is a massage therapist with alternative medicine, a gynaecologist, a dermatologist and of course my friend Seb the Chiropractor and occasionally 2 other Chiropractors come in and do some work. Big change in hours too. At my old office I could go in anytime between 9.30 and 10 and do my daily 5 hours; now I work on Monday 4pm till 8pm - Wed&Thurs 9am-1pm and 4pm-8pm and on Fridays only in the morning from 9 to 1pm. That gives me a looong weekend which I appreciate and Tuesdays off to do things for me and the house.

Flora & Fauna

Another cool thing about living here is that we have cool animals! Like FLAMINGOS!

After leaving the Camargue, in France, the flamingos seek refuge in Sardinia on their migratory journey towards Africa. Up until 1993 the only European areas where pink flamingos nested and bred were the Camargue in France and the Fuente De Pietra lagoon in southern Spain. However, since 1993 these beautiful birds have surprisingly taken to nesting in this lagoon, just behind the city of Cagliari(where I live) and, from a colony of about 1500 birds, thousands of flamingos have been born.
My mom's house is just infront of the lagoon, so it's cool to drive along the road and admire these gracious animals. I've been wanting to stop and take some pictures of them and so finally today I did!

"Interior Decorator"

I love it when you start a theme for decorating parts of the house, and things just start coming together!!! I chose Roosters & Chickens for my kitchen and am just loving it! I actually got stuck on this theme thanks to my Step-Mom Nancy who has a "thang" for Roosters & Chickens as well.
In Sardinia, roosters are very popular and are a part of traditional decoration on just about every thing; ceramics, rugs, paintings, carved furniture and pastries - you can find a typical rooster for every Sardinian town.

I had roosters hand painted on my kitchen tile

And I got this FANTASTIC chalk board yesterday! How cool is that!!! The little baggie thingy on the left hand side is the eraser! How cute is it!!!! (I still need to find chalk, if I had kids I would of had some for sure!)
This is a hot pad from Portugal, and there too, Roosters are a symbol of their heritage

My sister-in law brought me this nifty oven mitten/hot pad from Ireland
This is how you use it, it's great for taking casserols out of the oven!

My carved sardinian ceramic plates.

I know that this has nothing to do with roosters but, I got these cute frames as well yesterday, now all I need to do is find a few cute pictures and put them in there!
